Welcome

Welcome to the Kearney Area Storytelling Festival. You're invited to come hear professional storytellers—along with area tellers—present the art of storytelling in many area venues.

History

The festival began in 1988 when Germelina Salumbides brought together a group of storytellers under a large tent in her backyard. In 1990, Nancy Duncan began a yearly tradition of bringing professional storytellers to central Nebraska. She scheduled a time for audiences to listen and from there the festival has grown over the years to include national tellers, opportunities for tellers to present their stories in schools, libraries, churches, and for a wide range of audiences.

Mission

The mission of the Kearney Area Storytelling Festival is to preserve, celebrate and perpetuate the art of storytelling and to nurture, develop and sustain the local community of tellers and listeners
